Introduction
The Specific Diseases Unit is responsible for participating in the allocation of financial resources, visiting dialysis departments, handling issues (e.g. accommodates, reception, etc.)  related to patients with specific diseases (e.g. thalassemia, transplant, and MS patients).

Major Tasks and Activities
  • Accommodating and admitting dialysis patients and referring them to relevant authorities to receive dialysis and health insurance cards
  • Issuing payment orders for transplant patients’ medications
  • Introducing MS patients to relevant bodies to receive their medications
  • Uploading data related to patients with specific diseases (e.g. thalassemia, transplant, and MS patients) to the Transplantation and Specific Diseases Department’s website and using updated software
  • Corresponding with insurance institutes and introducing technical managers of dialysis units for signing insurance contracts
  • Visiting under construction dialysis wards and checking compliance of existing conditions with standards presented by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education
  •  Participating in accreditation programs
  • Estimating the needs of dialysis centers to dialysis filters and signing contracts with relevant companies
  • Coordinating with the Transplantation and Specific Diseases Department of the Ministry in order to allocate required consumables to subsidiary dialysis centers
  • Compiling a table of financial resources allocated by the Ministry and submitting it to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office for Development to distribute the resources among centers
  • Handling complaints on issues related to patients with specific diseases
  •  Checking proper registration of data by relevant dialysis staff in the Transplantation and Specific Diseases Department’s website and assessing the need for holding training sessions and workshops for untrained staff
  • Holding a training needs assessment test for peritoneal dialysis nurses and sending results to the Ministry (to decide on holding training courses)
  • Checking and updating information related to hemodialysis and RO machines and conducting follow-ups to receive new machines from the Ministry
  • Reviewing the supply and distribution of specialized staff in departments related to patients with specific diseases and providing reports to the Vice-Chancellor for Treatment for taking necessary measures
  • Corresponding with the Transplantation and Specific Diseases Department of the Ministry to receive necessary instructions available for specific diseases units and sending them to relevant centers for improving their performance
  • Reviewing and handling letters submitted by the Islamic Consultative Assembly on issues related to patients with specific diseases
  • Corresponding with organ procurement units and coordinating to link patients requiring organ transplants to brain death cases
  • Investigating the necessity of expanding such treatment units in the affiliated centers, with regard to the existing potentials and approved policies
  • Holding relevant workshops
  • Examining problems in these medical units and providing appropriate solutions
  • Receiving relevant guidelines from the Ministry and submitting them to all centers
  • Reviewing, analyzing, and improving health indicators through consistent planning
